Pilot Escapes Serious Injury from Plane Crash
Saturday, July 2, 2016

On July 2nd at 10:44 LFD and SCEMS were alerted for an Aircraft Emergency on East Trap Pond Road in the area of Johnson Road.  The crew from A-81 responded as did Fire Chief Mike Lowe.  Medic 102 was first on scene and discovered a crop dusting plane that had flipped on it's top on the edge of a field behind St. John's AME Church, in the area of Ross Point.  Initial reports were that the scene was only accessible by 4 wheel drive.  Command, therefore, requested Gumboro Vol. Fire Co., be alerted for four wheel drive vehicles including 79-00, their 6X6.  Units arriving met the pilot on scene and he executed a patient refusal of services.  The plane although on it's top had no product on board and no hazardous leaks were found.  Eng. 81-2 arrived on scene as well as crews from Gumboro.  Chief 79-15 Bant was assigned as Operations Officer.  Contact was made with FAA as well as Delaware State Police.  Units cleared the scene at 11:20.
