Smoke Alarms Warn Residents of House Fire

Oh Apr. 9th at 3:15 hours, Laurel Fire Dept. was alerted for a house fire in the 200 block of W. Sixth Street.  Fire Chief Mike Lowe responded as 81 Command and arrived to find a 2 1/2 balloon construction house that had been converted into apartments with nothing visible from the exterior, however, smoke conditions existed on the interior.  Eng. 81-4 was first on scene with Deputy Chief Tim West as Officer.  West's crew found a kitchen fire that occurred on top of the stove with extension into the wall behind the stove.  The fire was contained to the area of origin.  Tower 81 arrived with F/F Donnie Layton as officer.  Their crew assisted with ventilation.  Five residents of the home were moved to A-81 for assessment and expressed their gratitude to the Fire Dept. and the smoke alarms that woke them up.
